Overview

The Infectious Diseases and Public Health Field School is an intensive 10-day program in the Peruvian Amazon and Lima, organized by the UPCH–YALE Teodoro E. Gildred Laboratories in collaboration with the University of Antwerp. Each year, participants from around the world come together to explore infectious diseases and their impact on public health.

Through hands-on field research, laboratory work, and community engagement, participants learn from expert researchers and local health professionals. They gain practical experience in data collection, sample analysis, disease surveillance, and translating research into public health action.

The program immerses participants in the Amazonian environment and local communities, showing that science is not only studied in the lab, it is walked, observed, and lived. Graduates leave with knowledge, skills, and a firsthand understanding of how research informs policy and connects global health with local realities.
